Product Description

Product Description

When it comes to ethics, it seems that we are all at sea. Since the beginning, the philosophers have always dreamed of finally reaching solid ground, but their proofs and demonstrations and laws have failed to bring us into harbour. Incapable of defining virtue, we manage to tell tales about it; not quite sure what justice is, we still spin yarns about the just and the unjust. Casting the reader adrift onto the sea of stories, attentive to the changes in the winds and the tides, through both philosophy and storytelling, this book explores ethics not as a means of finding our way back home to a safe harbour, but instead as a way of acclimatising ourselves to life on the seas of uncertainty.

5.0 out of 5 stars jouney into uncertainty, 28 Jan 2010

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Finding Our Sea-Legs: Ethics, Experience and the Ocean of Stories (Paperback)
Will is an old friend of mine and I have known him since our days back in the Toon and late night discourses into various existentially important themes. I loved reading his work and felt that he carefully takes us out to sea and offers a creative way of living with the uncertainty that characterises human existance. The idea that through story telling, that the sea of stories that are told, can offer a way to engaging with life is deeply moving and resonated with my own being. Its written in a very approachable language to anyone fearful of venturing into philosophical waters.
