Haven't finished it yet but this puts all the perspective I need onto "Thicker than Blood: Friendship on the Buddhist Path" as a sceptical Buddhist who is lonely from want of friends I am finding it very helpful. You know I like his point what is up with modern life in which my romantic love becomes my "one true friend" and friends and family get short shrift because in my little free time I'm playing video games and reading books. Whatever happened to the idea of true friends, not FaceBook friends, not acquaintances, not work friends, but friends of the heart, admirable friends? Some of us do have that, I do not and this book helps me see that what I want is not WEIRD. Heh, I understand Game of Thrones is really compelling so we can't meet up but guess what not all of us have those kind of priorities so of us want to find the lasting relevance in our lives in something other then sense pleasures. And if you want that, and Buddhism resonates for you (don't need to consider yourself a Buddhist or have a meditation practice) this is and awesome book for you. Honor the sacred wishes of you heart and open yourself to what friendship can be about and go out there and find admirable friends or take the time to TELL the admirable friends in your life how much they mean to you. <But you don't have to take my word for it!-Reading Rainbow>
