Product Description

Product Description

Driving is the most dangerous thing that most people do. This book explains how drivers can dramatically reduce the risk. Expert drivers use a lot more than conventional driving skills. The key is not just in what they do but, crucially, how they think. This has always been the most vital part of safe driving, but no one has found a way to explain the mental processes involved. "Mind Driving" explains how expert drivers think. Revealed for the first time are: what really causes danger on the road, how to control the danger, how to make life-saving decisions, and how to enjoy driving and do it safely at the same time. Every driver should read this book. No one involved in driver training or road safety can afford to be without it. True driving ability is still the most neglected element in the effort to reduce road casualties. It is essential that this is changed. This book will do that. "Mind Driving" is approved and recommended by the Driving Instructors Association and the Diamond Advanced driving test organisation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect gift, 3 Nov 2006
This book (a recent birthday gift) captures superbly how to progress from a purely "functional" driver to a very "safe" one. The difference is in how much control you achieve over the dangers you are in and what happens to you. Having been in police and corporate training for over 20yrs, it shows all the things and more that I have been coaching to drivers and often struggled to fully explain.

Whether a novice just through the test or a high mileage experienced driver, it is certain to open your mind to a new level of how to keep yourself safe on the road. It is also an addictive read in itself too, and I totally recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly Different, very easy and totally useful, 4 Oct 2006
After more than 20 years of driving I wish I had found a book like this sooner. It is both different and brilliant! It does exactly what it promises, and reveals the skills that can really keep you safe on the road. After reading this book you will know WHY it is your THINKING that must keep you safe. Then HOW it works, and HOW to use it to improve your own driving. All in one package.

It is laid out clearly and in a very logical structure, so that you can easily dip in and out of the topics. The way the skills are explained is also very easy to understand and to use. There is a constant flow of helpful tips and information on every page, from start to finish.

The foreword, by the head of the Driving Instructors Association, says, "... without question it can help reduce the huge toll of fatalities and injuries on the roads". I think I agree.

The author obviously has a passion for the subject, and the relaxed style is a 'good read' in itself too.

This is an excellent book for anyone who wants to drive more safely, and more enjoyably.

5.0 out of 5 stars Better Thinking Skills Will Prevent Crashes, 24 Sep 2006
By J. O. Willis (Norfolk, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Excellent! The best road safety manual you'll ever read! As the title implies, this book is all about encouraging drivers to become thinking drivers; it is about cooperating with other road users; it is about managing risk, not apportioning blame; and, most importantly, it is about the one thing missing from driver training today - EDUCATION.
"...the true Education element of road safety has been given the least opportunity to contribute", says the author.

Stephen Haley presents the reader, in Skill 1 (`chapter' is replaced by the word `skill'), with a set of beliefs. For example:

"Safe driving is in my thinking. It is about actively managing risk with the decisions I make." (belief 2)
"Preventing a collision is more important than who would be to blame for it." (belief 3)

This book is for everyone:

*Teachers in schools educating the drivers of the future
*ADIs and anyone involved in driver training
*Those who drive regularly as part of their work
*Those who drive the kids to school, do the shopping and visit friends
*Those who passed their driving test long ago, whether or not they have had an accident in that time
*Confident drivers
*Timid drivers
*Advanced drivers
*Novice drivers
*Elderly drivers

Society needs this book. BUY IT! READ IT! LIVE BY IT!
