Product Description

Synopsis

The use of "composites" is now an essential element in the construction of competition cars so it is important that's those involved in the sport have an understanding of what they are, and how they can be employed. This is a practical guide to all main aspects of composite fibre reinforced plastic manufacturing techniques with emphasis on the methods and materials that can be used in the home workshop. It is intended as a reference for competition drivers, amateur designers and constructors as well as those who make, modify or repair components, both for competition cars and road vehicles.

5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent book, one of the few with many practical advices, 2 Jun 2001
If you want to make your own composites body parts or wings, you need this book. Obviously one of the best book on the subject, with many pictures showing step by step how to make moulds and parts.

4.0 out of 5 stars get yourself a nice warm garden shed, 4 Nov 2004

you'll need it with this book. very practical. repeats a lot of the things over and over but i actually like that because i dislike having to flick too many pages to find the steps i forget. like dancing lessons. you have to repeat the steps over and over.
goes into the properties of the materials, layups, different resins etc. from this you could probably start work on your Lamborghini Countach replica. Just get yourself a shed first to do all the work!

4.0 out of 5 stars Almost perfect for the beginner, 15 Dec 2009
By J. Selin "The Joker" (Near Oxford, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this book with the intention to look into making Carbon Fibre bits and pieces for my motorbike and anything else I could think of.
I haven't done any GRP or CF work in the past so I was purely reading this book as trying to understand how difficult the process is and what's required to do something. This book gives excellent insight to the process and the materials. It is really complete and for me it shows me how much work is behind one of those tiny carbon fibre pieces you can find here and there.
I would have given it the five star rating if the book would be up to date. One can see that the material is a bit old, and that prices etc. have changed. If the book would be updated it would be absolutely perfect. The process, however, has not changed and is actually up to date, so for that part of the information everything is fine.
A good book if you're looking into some amateur-getting-started-with-carbon-fibre-reading.
