4.0 out of 5 stars This'll give ya the Har' o' the Bar'!!, 17 Mar 2001

As a graduate of Ray Mears' woodlore college of bushcraft, I read this fascinating book with great interest. Full of very useful information and covering all aspects of the life skills required by the Rocky Mountain Fur Trapper. Further more it's easy to follow if not sometimes vague diagrams allow the reader to turn his hand at constructing anything from strike-a-lite pouch to a Tepee. This book will allow the reader to cloth and feed himself in the style of the trapper and is without a doubt an most have item. An excellent addition to the libary of anybody interested in mountain men or wilderness bushcraft. My only critisism is that in some areas the line drawings are alittle vague, but in someways this is adventageous as it forces the reader to exercise his creativity and in so doing allows him to experience the joy of success.

4.0 out of 5 stars Mountainman, Crafts and Skills Review, 13 Nov 2009

Overall this book is refreshingly different. I was expecting a slightly different survival manual, in actual fact it is more of an insight into the lives of the old fur-traders. Every page is packed with simple, step by step diagrams. From fire lighting and coat making to tipi construction and beadwork. A vast array of subjects are covered. It is not a step by step guide to survival but a book to experiment with. A good gift for bushcraft enthusiasts to expand their skills.
