Product Description

Synopsis

A Primitive Diet is a book of information and recipes free from gluten, yeast, sugar, dairy products, large amounts of meat and grain, and processed foods that today are a major proportion of the modern "western" diet. These recipes are suitable for people of all ages. Don't be put off trying them just because you consider yourself healthy ...you'll be surprised at the gourmet delights within. What did Primitive Man eat? He gathered fruits, berries, nuts, greens and roots from the soil. Herbs were his medicine. If he was quick and cunning he caught a small animal, fish or bird, or would have found a bird's egg. The exciting recipes contained between these covers have been created by Beverley Southam from Primitive Man's vast outdoor pantry, to solve serious health problems of her family many years ago. There is nothing boring about this fresh, wholesome diet. Savour the the taste of Fresh Tomato Soup, Ceviche (a Mexican dish), Salsas, Marinated Fresh Fruit. Feast on Fish in Banana Leaves, Raw Apple Pie complemented with healthy fresh drinks - Strawberry Crush, Iced Pineapple Tea, Orange and Avocado Smoothie. Try healthy treats from around the world.Entertain your family and friends on your special diet without them knowing it's supposed to be diet food.

Included for those who miss their bread and cakes, there are recipes of dampers, pizza bases, cakes and cookies in which to indulge - gluten-free, yeast-free, sugar-free and dairy-free of course! And ...who said to be on a special diet is boring?

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for vegans, gluten intolerants and Coeliac sufferers, 18 Nov 2009
By Luna (Glasgow) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Primitive Diet: A Book of Recipes Free from Wheat/Gluten, Dairy Products, Yeast and Sugar: For People with Candidiasis, Coeliac Disease, Irritable ... Sclerosis, Asthma, Eczema, Psoriasis, Acne, (Paperback)
I thought this book was a really refreshing cook book. I have a few gluten free cookbooks in the house, including a well known Candida cookbook, and some of the recipes are so dreadful and lacking in taste in many of the books that they are inedible. This means ofcourse that you feel even more deprived of foods that you once loved, making the huge dietary shift even more depressing. This book manages to outline fresh, interesting, flavoursome, energising recipes. The pizza recipes are a favourite and the 'dough' is surprisingly tasty and have actually become preferable to the thick, heavy bases you get in pizza places.
I was looking for an easy, accessible cookbook, not one packed with the author's history, experiences, health guidance, etc so I was relieved to find that this book is packed with good, easy recipes but with some interesting added info told in such a way that it is friendly and positive. I'd recommend it for veggies, vegans, coeliacs, ME sufferers and anyone who is beginning to think their diet may be a contributing factor to health problems.

3.0 out of 5 stars Trying to solve dietary issues?, 28 July 2009
By Cliff_the_gardener (Doncaster, South Yorkshire, UK) - See all my reviews
This review is from: A Primitive Diet: A Book of Recipes Free from Wheat/Gluten, Dairy Products, Yeast and Sugar: For People with Candidiasis, Coeliac Disease, Irritable ... Sclerosis, Asthma, Eczema, Psoriasis, Acne, (Paperback)
The book is an account of one woman's (and her families) experience on overcoming conditions related to dietary issues. She freely admits to having conflict with her trained daughter with regards to complementary medicine. The book is a life experience, not a scientific account and offers no rational guidance as to how or why the diet worked. Overall it is a take it or leave it approach
As a ME sufferer I found myself cherry picking the information. Got some new recipes and that was useful.
Overall would have rather borrowed from the library that have sat on my bookshelf
