I never write reviews but im going to write a brief review about August's book which is certainly not a 1* book!!! Reading the book you will be able to understand how subliminal messages affect us on buying various products and how advertising agencies implement those messages with maestri methods. August begins with the birth of subliminal advertising and how they developed through the years by analyzing numerous of good & colored images as reference to his analysis. I'm not going to analyze the whole book because i believe that you should buy the book and I'm 100% sure that you will not disappointed. The book also contain some psychological analysis in order to understand how our brain reacts.

As a child I was fascinated by the fact that if you stared long enough at my Mum's woodchip wallpaper, you could see little faces appear in the random patterns of the wood pieces. Later, I dicovered that this phenomenon was known as simulcra, and that humans are naturally predisposed to find facial and other anthropomorphic imagery in random patterns.
The premise for this book, The Secret Sales Pitch is that the author sees these simulcra in everyday images from the world of advertising, and he believes that they are placed there deliberately to manipulate our thoughts.
This theory seemed very interesting to me, until I realised that the author, August Bullock sees a whole spectrum of sexual imagery in the most mundane and absurd situations. It is well known that sexual imagery is used regularly in advertising, but I fear that the author is grasping at the most ridiculous of straws.
In one example we are asked to ponder an advert for a swimming pool company, where he postulates that imagery of child sexual abuse and incest is evident in a photo of a father and child swimming together. Quite why the pool company would see fit to subliminally promote peadophillia along with its pools is not explained by Bullock; and the ridiculousness does not stop there.
Advertisements are searched for hidden demons and phalluses, anuses, and breasts in such a laughable way, (and drawn in in a cartoon style by the author to highlight where he sees them) it is like a naughty schoolboy doodling on a toilet wall.
I cannot imagine what a trip to the vegetable aisle of the loacl supermarket must be like for this poor fellow.
If you want to read a thoroughly researched and sensible book on subliminal messaging, read Derren Brown's Tricks Of The Mind.
