4.0 out of 5 stars The book is an apple on the tree of life., 13 Jan 2006
By Mr. S. P. Mudie "simonmudie" (uk) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I am a huge fan of the Mercola.com website. Dr Mercola sends me his newsletter twice a week, and I read every article avidly, cross referencing all over the place. Certainly in the UK, his well researched and validated advice poo poos the majority of so called informed opinion and advice we receive from our medical doctors and the from government bodies such as the food standards agency.
I have spent a lot of time reading through many of the 30000+ pages on the site, and as as a result learnt little that was new from buying the book. Two thirds of it is recipes, which I find dull, dull, dull. I just want to know what I should or should not eat. In the absence of access to the 'net, the book helps somewhat. I felt it painfully thin on delivery in terms of extra metabolic typing info I was expecting over and above what is already on his EXCELLENT site.
I have not actualy implemented and lived the Total Health plan yet, so cannot with fairness assess the effectiveness.
Dr Mercola suggests implementng the lifestyle and diet changes incrementally.Too much change can be difficult in one go. I now have much to think about in terms of applying the knowledge incrementally, though my 'lysteria' is now longer! I will need the extra years of my life to pay for the incredibly expensive and often obscure foods that are endorsed.
Information is paramount, and Dr Mercola gets a huge thumbs up from me for helping people know more about important issues. It is up to them what they do with it. I wanted to give him some money,so I bought the book.
Subscibe to the newsletter on the his site.
Buy the book if you want some recipes.

3.0 out of 5 stars Yet another "healthy" recipe book, 21 Sep 2006
By C. Clark "shrimplady" (Canterbury, Kent, UK) - See all my reviews

I agree with the other reviewer - I got this via my husband's knowledge of Dr M's website, and agree that the recipes are not the most exciting. I'd struggle to fill a week with his ideas. For goodness sakes, we know what we need to do, exercise and eat smaller quantities of a balanced (fruit, veg, etc) diet. As for cooking with coconut oil..... how many days is this going to add to my life? Save your money and buy some organic veg instead, but do visit the website. And get out and walk.
