5.0 out of 5 stars Experienced or Beginner, this is a MUST HAVE., 18 Dec 2003
By A Customer
I have been knitting since I was an ankle biter - but this book has totally revolutionised my whole thinking about knitting. Very clear, precise instructions and pictures leave the knitter, whether experienced or beginner, in no doubt as to their ability to actually KNIT. I now have the confidence to pick up any set of needles with any gauge of wool and just KNOW that I can produce beautiful products. If you call yourself a knitter, then you simply must have this book. If you want to be a knitter, then start here. Wonderful. Jacqueline Fee had me laughing out loud as she dispelled some of the myths. In a nutshell, Buy It.

2.0 out of 5 stars Clear, simple writing is a GOOD thing. , 19 May 2007

Not very good, try before you buy.

Pros: The knit sampler in this book is genius for a beginning knitter. You're put through at least 20 different stitches and have something cool to show instead of a scarf.

Cons: Lots of cons- Ms. Fee cribs all her notes from Elizabeth Zimmerman, Barbara Walter et al - and writes them in this convoluted 'newagey' way. None of the ideas seem to be hers and the book is incomprehensible. She goes on at length about 'new beginnings' and waxes poetic about a lot of stuff, but never really gets down to the knitty gritty of actual design. All jumpers are bottom up (like the flat knitted jumpers she despises), and none are top down. They are all raglan, no inset sleeves (c'mon, there must be design books that have inset sleeves when doing jumpers in the round). Then, to top it off, she gives patterns (after telling people ala Ms. Zimmerman to 'fly on wings') of jumpers that are clumsy and old fashioned looking.

I'm flabbergasted at the great reviews this book gets.

I'll be returning this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Th possiblities are endless, 2 April 2007

A splendid book for the imaginative and creative knitter indeed for those who would claim to be neither this book will inspire and encourage; the text is easy to follow and I liked the touch of humour. Everything is there for the complete beginner to the more experienced knitter - say goodbye to commercial patterns and knitting bits which must then be sewn, with this book when you cast off the garment is complete.
