4.0 out of 5 stars Looks very good for beginners to programming, 8 Sep 2006
By Mr. M. J. Small (London) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
When wanting to learn C# as a Java programmer and was enticed into downloading C# Express Edition. Saw this book and whilst I thought it was beneath the level of any reasonably experienced programmer it is perfect for someone who has an interest in learning more about programming and application developement. The type of people who write some SQL, HTML or Excel Macros or such like and would like to get a kick-start into some 'serious' developement would spring to mind as those who this book would be most appopriate for, though for a complete beginner it would still be good.

If you do have any programming experience this book will be beneath you as you'll be through it pretty quick, skimming and reading only a few relevant lines per page. However if you've only ever programmed outside of an IDE it might be a good intro for that. Also it introduced me to a few VS/C# things which were useful (how to generate client code for a web service, for example), but I could have got these more comprehensively from another C# book.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Best Place To Start C#, 14 Jul 2006
By Mr. S. McKeown (London, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I'm fairly new to programming and C# on the whole, I had a trial version of Visual Studio.Net and then I got my hands on the Visual Studio 2005 Beta 2. I started to play but I needed to understand and this book did just that.
The writer has a level way of putting things across and all the details are followed up by "Try It Outs" where you do what you have just been reading about.
I did notice one or two errors but all you do is log onto there website and let them know (if someone has not beat you to it).
If like me you are stuck using the Visual C# Express Edition and are learning the language I would recommend this book to anyone.
This is also part of a set of three books, I have now moved upto the next level and what I have read this far follows on nicely building on what I have learnt.
If you don't belive me, or are in any doubt just buy it and see for your self.

3.0 out of 5 stars One for the beginners, 27 Mar 2007
By GL Watson "gary watson" (Bradford, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I'm an experienced progbrammer, and need to learn C#.
This book covers the basics, and is aimed at those just starting out in programming.
Having said that, it covered enough for me to start using the language.
Useful for about a week, then you need something with more depth.
