5.0 out of 5 stars A Product of Experience, 15 May 2008
By Moonlit (London) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My 600 Recipes: for the Kitchen Not the Coffee Table (Paperback)
This is an amazing cookery book! A product of 40 years of producing meals for family and friends containing a vast selection of tried and tested recipes. These 40 years having been spent in Italy it is not surprising that the pasta section is so comprehensive, but the coverage of all courses of a meal is an incredible achievement.I have produced four course meals entirely from this book with great success and have enjoyed searching through the ingredients to find those in season. The recipes are individual and particular and I have found many combinations of ingredients I have never come across before. The chicken liver crostini is to die for!The acquacotta maremmana is so delicious and different, and so substantial it makes a fabulous lunch served with schiacciatine or herb rolls.I could go on and on as I am enjoying this book so much;it is a pleasure to read through and whilst so doing, ideas for menus come flooding in!The olive oil pastry has never failed and is delicious and light and crumbly...yum.This is certainly a book for the kitchen, yet I must confess that it is often on my bedside table! There is no need for pictures the recipes are pictures in words.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Sicilian Food Experience, 16 Oct 2008
By Anita Jahn (Berkshire, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: My 600 Recipes: for the Kitchen Not the Coffee Table (Paperback)
A wonderful cookery book using local fresh produce to make the most amazing meals. This is a unique book as the recipes are simple and easy to follow. There are no complicated instructions. I think it is such a modern book as the recipes concentrate on wholesome foods, fish, fruit and vegetables which assist the immune system. Every recipe is talked through and you are sometimes given a little history lesson, such as the Pasta a la Norma on page 146 which also treats you to tips from the local constabulary. Another is the Parmigiana di Melanzane page 270 which proves that meat is not necessary for a complete meal. I love this particular recipe. The simplicity of making pesto page 166 is a real eye opener and surpasses any shop bought version. This is a book for dipping in and out of regularly with so many ideas on offer. No pictures are necessary the proof is in the eating.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Great Compendium of Italian Recipes, 4 Sep 2008
This review is from: My 600 Recipes: for the Kitchen Not the Coffee Table (Paperback)
I came across this book whilst on Holiday in Sicily and was very pleased to find it. It is an excellent selection of recipes collected by the author during her 40 years in Italy, and I found its no-nonsense approach invaluable. We have numerous seductive books by Gordon, Hugh, Jamie, Nigel, Nigella, and I love em all, but what I really value in this book is it's encyclopaedic nature, that covers all the essential Italian basics with great solidity. If you want mouth watering pictures, don't buy it. If you want to know how to cook a proper penne a vongole, this should be on your shelf.
