Product Description

Love is always just around the corner in a Jill Mansell novel - with a few surprises and a lot of humour on the way to happiness

Jessie has kept the identity of her son Oliver’s father a secret for years. She’s stunned when she discovers that the man in question, actor Toby Gillespie, has just moved in next door. The truth’s about to come out. One glance at Oliver, and a little mental arithmetic, and Toby has the situation sussed. Meeting the son he never knew he had is the shock of a lifetime. It’s a shock, too, for Toby’s wife, the beautiful Deborah, though she seems to take it in her stride. Would Deborah be so relaxed if she knew just how close Toby wants to get to the mother of his firstborn? As the attraction between them flares up again, Jessie just can’t see her way to a happy ending. But no one is quite what they seem, and there are more surprises to come…

5.0 out of 5 stars Lots to Enjoy Here!, 4 Sep 2001
By A Customer
Jill Mansell consistently delivers charming, witty novels. Head Over Heels is no exception, a truly enjoyable read. The main story revolves around Jessie and Toby, and how their chance reunion, after 20 years, creates an emotional explosion that literally ripples throughout the village. Jessie and Toby were in love when they were young, an unexpected pregnancy pulling them apart. Toby believes the Jessie terminated the pregnancy and hated him so that she wanted nothing to do with him. Toby goes on to become an incredibly famous actor, married to a beautiful former actress, with two children - on the surface, a perfect family. (All is not what it seems, however.) Jessie goes on to successfully raise her son on her own, and despite her best efforts, never stops caring for Toby. She tells no one the truth about the father of her son, including Oliver, her son. 21 years later, Toby and his chaotic family move to the village where Jessie has settled, and mayhem breaks lose. The suspense isn't in whether or not Toby finds out that Oliver is his - he figures that out in the first 20 pages! The story is how this revelation - along with the reader's growing realization that both Toby and Jessie have never fallen out of love with each other - seems to cause a ripple effect that changes the lives of everyone in the village. Are there a lot of characters and "couples" in this book - yes, there are. It is a bit busy at times - but ultimately what Mansell does is provide various profiles of relationships and visions of what commitment to marriage/relationships mean. All of this is done with humor and wonderful dialog. Although this book is really about Jessie and Toby, my favorite "sub-story" was Lilie & Drew (Mr. Darcy!). With Mansell, there is always the element of "Prince Charming" - often a wealthy/famous man who finds true love with a rather ordinary woman. But a little escapism isn't bad from time to time. Fun book, really terrific author - I haven't read a book by JM yet that I didn't enjoy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Accident !!!, 20 Jun 2005
By Cupcake (Harlow, England with love...) - See all my reviews
What's one of the worst things that could happen to a girl lazing about the pool on holiday... Yes you guessed it... Finishing reading the last book you've brought with you.

Luckily for me though the hotel I was staying at had a 'swap your books library' and so while my husband snored on the sun lounger next to me, I went off in search of my next read.

I had not read any of Jill Mansell's books before but I picked out Head over Heels because the cover jumped out at me and after reading the back cover I decided to give it a whirl (after all it was free don't forget), and so it was only by chance / accident that I came to read it.

Within the first few pages I realised that this book would be a fanitastic read, what with the wonderful characters and brilliant descriptions I really was drawn into the story as if I was part of the village that the story focuses on. Jill Mansell has been extremely clever, you have all the usual characters that you'd expect to find in a village... Extraverts, nosy parkers, 'loose women' etc, etc and what with the romance, intrigue and occasional twists it really does make for a good read - Hence me looking on Amazon for other Jill Mansell books and taking the trouble to write this review, enjoy...

This is a good light-hearted read. Excellent for a holiday book. Great fun and not a lot of concentration required! Sorry intellectuals, this is just what most of us need to unwind from our day to day jobs.
