When I received the book I realised that I had not properly understood the title (duh)- it says 'funky' 'chunky' & because it mentions customizing - I did not realise that 99% of the content, i.e. the patterns, require chunky weight wool. Most request 100% pure (chunky) wool which is certainly not that easy to get hold of these days and not for a budget price. The book is largely variations on a theme, it gives basic instructions for a simple hat (as the cover for example), mitts, scarf, bag, etc., then different ways to embellish them, mitts with buttons, scarves with pompoms or beads etc.etc., also a bit of felting if you want to experiment with that. 60 ways sounds like it's packed with goodies but really it's like a handful of patterns then 50+ ideas to make them look slightly different. The book is ok, for a bit of inspiration perhaps as well, and is ok for beginners or brushing up when you're getting back into knitting after a long gap. A few quick easy projects. I think you can use a double strand of DK to substitute for chunky but of course best to check the tension first. Nicely presented with clear photos & it has basic knitting instructions before beginning the patterns that would get a complete beginner knitting. Overall I quite like the book, it was written in 2006, it's just a pity that the availability of good quality wool has declined so much...
