5.0 out of 5 stars Three cheers for swashbuckling, 13 Feb 2002
By A Customer
A gripping tale of treasure and villainy on the high seas. Based around the story of two Irish and two American boys who are unlucky enough to have become entangled in the sinister machinations of the patently evil Lady Agnes and her dastardly henchman, the swarthy old sea captain. Peril awaits these young adventurers at every turn as they vie to confound their vile tormentors. A well constructed tale that had me sitting on the edge of my seat throughout. Finely presented characters who act with genuine believability. The best traditions of children's fiction are laid out in this book, offering a welcome respite from the monotonous tales of far-fetched witchery and fantastical dragons which have come to belabour the book displays of the young-reader sections of libraries and bookshops across the nation. Healthy outdoors adventure is what this book provides by the bucket load and I feel very much better for having read it.
