this is a book written by an american, for north americans. the author has covered the tourist areas of france, and quite well, but there is an enormous area in the heart of the country that is ignored. also, perhaps her visits to some places were a little hurried, she says that she has never been inclined to get to know Lyon, and dismisses the city as not really worth exploring - missing out on one of France's most fascinating old quarters that has drawn us back for 3 visits, and still has more to explore and enjoy. for frequent visitors to france the book is really only 'half a book' but to be fair there are so many flea markets scattered about it would be a mammoth task to cover more than the most significant and accessable. a good book for a traveller with limited time, for us as very frequent channelcrossers a very limited guide. i will search for something more suitable, that covers the lesser known areas. however, it makes a very nice read,and is worth having if you are only spending a short time in france, as it points you to the major towns and markets.

This is an engaging, knowledgeable book that vividly conveys the sights and sounds of French flea markets and their remarkable history. The author knows her stuff, and her love for the colours and textures of their wares is infectious. Price's prose style is friendly and authoritative, with a sly sense of humour. I found it a great read for anyone who likes France, but it's a must for the flea market enthusiast.

Exploring the Flea Markets of France is a witty, informative book which makes you want to hop on a plane to France, put on your comfortable shoes and start searching for flea market treasures. Never dry or boring, and often funny (would you like to buy a bucket of dead fish?), this book is full of useful tips for both experienced and aspiring flea market shoppers. Whether you are actually planning a trip to France or are simply an armchair traveller, you must read Ms Price's book (you won't believe she is a lawyer).
