As a Spaniard living in the UK, I have often wondered how it is that even when choosing the right words and the right pronunciation, I couldn't make myself understood. I was using my own native language intonation patterns and as C. J. Wells very well says in this book: native speakers of English do not make allowances for errors of intonation, the reason being that they probably do not realise that intonation can be wrong - "when it comes to intonation - you mean what you say".Thanks to this book my frustrated days are over. Definitely a book I highly recommend.
