About the Author

Dr. Jack Purdum started his programming career on an IBM 360 mainframe as a graduate student in the 1960s. In the mid – 1970s, he became interested in software development for microcomputers, and he founded his own software development company (Ecosoft, Inc.) in 1977. The company ’ s main product was a statistics package (Microstat) that he wanted to rewrite in a new language called C. Lacking a suitable C compiler, Dr. Purdum ’ s company developed its own MS – DOS – based C compiler and other programming tools. He has been involved with language instruction ever since. Dr. Purdum has authored 15 texts and numerous programming articles and has received several teaching awards. He is currently on the cusp of retirement from Purdue University ’ s College of Technology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb book, 4 Sep 2008

This is one of the most important books you can read about c# OOP.
If you are a beginner who wants to move on to OOP or just need to understand a little bit more about what goes on behind the scenes, this book is a must-buy.

It is not full of code but there is a thorough discussion of OOP with some code to explain the OOP mechanism.

Thoroughly excellent introduction.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a MUST BUY Book, 24 Oct 2008
By Paul M. Berry (Horsham, UK) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I have had a few beginning books but have found the text vague and the exercises take a huge leap of fatih and understanding.

This book is well structured and informative, the only book I have read that actually treats you like a beginner and tells you how about to starting thinking about what you are going to write the five step process BRILLIANT!! and the structure for a class the symbolic constants , static members etc, etc again BRILLIANT.

It is like being in a class for me anyway as I thought hang on not sure what that was all about, the without fault the explanation was there.

I just hope that Mr Purdum has in mind a follow up book that carries on where this left off

Anyway an excellent book, and I can't recommend this enough!

A return to the wrox books of old
