(REAL NAME)
This would be an excellent book for those in the RIA development community who know absolutely nothing about AIR. It's mainly aimed at Flex developers (something which could have been made a little more clear) who have never worked outside the traditional Flash Player sandbox.

As a short, sharp introduction to AIR it works rather well - but if you've never seen MXML or AS3 before I would suggest picking up something a little more pertinent before looking here.

There's a nice little history of RIAs to get you started, and then the authors pretty much run through the Adobe Livedocs section on AIR. I'm not joking.

If you're tired of peering at a monitor all day and fancy a printed respite from the screen, this is your book. However, at only 300 pages, and with such a wide range of readers to cater to, the book will almost certainly disappoint those with a modicum of experience in either Flash, Ajax, AS3 or Flex.

Oh, and one last thing - there's only one "full-scale" Flex lab in the appendices, and it isn't really a lab at all; it's a guide for taking your online apps to the desktop. Other than that, you're limited to end-of-chapter quizzes.

This book will make interesting reading for Flex newbies - but other than that it's a mildly diverting glance at RIAs. Don't expect too much!
