4.0 out of 5 stars good choice, 27 Sep 2006

I chose this book from a very limited selection available while stuck for reading matter while abroad -- & what a good choice it was... V enjoyable escapism. Sharp characterisation with the right level of emotional depth, snappy dialogue, brisk pace, good action set pieces, excellent actualisation of various locations (the story moves from India to France to England to America to mid-ocean) & plenty of esoteric info (especially techno-savvy stuff about hacking & the power of computers). The plot twists & turns, & you're carried thru its implausibilities by the author's storytelling ability. When I finish writing this I'm going to order Jon Evan's 2 previous thrillers.

1.0 out of 5 stars What ever happened to English?, 29 Nov 2007
By K. Lanchester (UK) - See all my reviews

I found this book a real chore to read. From the unusual writing style (I much prefer past tense) to the flat characters and overly obvious plot this book just reaks of pointlessness. The technology (from an actual technical point of view) is so unbelievably flawed you wonder if the author actually bothered to do any research. I would give this a miss and look for something a bit more original.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing 3rd outing, 10 Mar 2009
By Mr. G. T. Redshaw "wolfblass" (Borehamwood) - See all my reviews

I won't give away the plot, which is one of my pet hates in reading a review.
What I will say is that it is a much weaker offering than his 'Trail of the Dead' & 'The Blood Price'.
Too many twists and turns and far to unbelievable. It turns out all more like James Bond and the power of computers is too implausible.
What he normally does well is write with gritty realism, (you feel if you were there, you would do the same) but he lost his way in the later half.
I'm about to read his next book 'The Night of Knives' which I hope is a return to form.
