Amazon.co.uk Review

Rannoch was born on the night his father was murdered, and into a herd of deer where hunger for power has gradually whittled away at all that is true and good. He knows he must escape to survive. Chased by stags, with their fearsome antlers sharpened for the kill, he begins a treacherous journey into the unknown, and ahead of him lies a shocking and formidable search for truth and goodwill in the shadow of the Great Mountain.

But one day he will have to return to his home and face his destiny among the deer to fulfil the prophecy that has persistently given them hope: that one day a fawn will be born with the mark of an oak leaf on his forehead and that fawn's courage will lead all the deer to freedom. Filled with passion and a darkness that gradually, through Rannoch's courage in the face of adversity, lifts to reveal an overwhelming feeling of light, Fire Bringer is a tremendous, spirited story that takes the reader deep into the hearts and minds of its characters as they fight for their right to live in peace.

Well-written and brimming with a gutsy excitement that leaps off the page and straight into the imagination, David Clement-Davies' debut novel for children is an exceptional, dynamic, complex and utterly absorbing piece of work that any child with a true love of animals and adventure will find impossible to put down. (Age 10 and over) --Susan Harrison --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Product Description

There is a prophecy among the deer. One day, a fawn will be born with the mark of an oak leaf upon his forehead. His courage will lead the deer to freedom; his strength will defeat their greatest enemy.

Rannoch was born on the night his father was murdered. In a herd where hunger for power has destroyed all that is good, he must escape to survive. Hunted by stags with antlers sharpened for the kill, Rannoch begins his treacherous journey. But he will return - to face the destiny that he was born for; to conquer the force that drove him away....

In a dark, troubled time, the prophecy is about to come true....

4.0 out of 5 stars Well written and original, 1 Jan 2007
By Louise Searl (Essex, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
As a lover of animal books this one immediately caught my eye - deer are an unusual choice of hero in a novel. The book is original for this reason and the story has you gripped from the first chapter.

It tells the tale of Rannoch, a red deer born into a troubled time. A tyrant named Sgorr is enslaving the deer, but a prophecy speaks of a chosen one who will set them free. It becomes increasingly clear that Rannoch is this chosen one, and though he is initially reluctant to believe it, after various adventures he eventually comes to accept his destiny.

For the most part, the information given regarding deer is accurate, though the author does switch seemingly at random between the correct terms for male, female and young red deer - that is, stag, hind and calf - and the terms buck, doe and fawn, which apply to different species. I found this slightly annoying, but all in all this book was a thoroughly entertaining read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fire Bringer - an epic tale, 5 April 2004
This review is from: Fire Bringer (Hardcover)
Fire Bringer is a book about; loyalty, belief, courage, treachery, hatred and destiny. This book follows Rannoch a red deer born the night his father was murdered. With a strange birth mark on his forehead which was foretold in a prophecy. He is chased from his home as a fawn and hunted by deer with their antlers sharpened to kill. He is seperated from his family and friends and must return to face his enemy and free the deer.

This book is an emotion stirring epic tale that you will enjoy. I especially recommend this book for animal lovers. This was David Clement-Davies' first novel and is extremely well written, one of those rare books you just can't put down. A must read, well worth the money.
