3.0 out of 5 stars The Bidden, 5 Jan 2010
Interesting novel from Ben Leech. As with the earlier The Community, it's written in a more literary rather than a pulpy style. The characterisation is slightly two dimensional so it's a little difficult to root for people, especially as the ending is sign-posted a little too clearly. Otherwise the threat to humanity is described evocatively. The setting is slightly odd, in that's it is difficult to get a feel for where, and when the book is set. It feels slightly American and slightly futuristic and Calverton is certainly a dark place. I can imagine this as a graphic novel. Worth a look.
