Fantastic Finale to the Cycle of Fire, 28 April 2001
In this, the final book of the Cycle of Fire, Janny Wurts neatly wraps up the saga of Ivainson Jaric, heir to the Cycle of Fire.Having rescued the Keys to Elrinfaer, Ivainson Jaric has sailed the world of Keithland looking for a way to keep the keys safe from the Demon compact that would use them to unleash an unstoppable terror on the human nations. Now, finding himself committed to one course of action save his friends from certain destruction, Jaric must risk his live and soul to obtain the power he needs. Fabulous. Janny Wurts at last reveals the answer to the Vaerish Mysteries from the first two books, and resolves that tales of Anskiere of Elrinfaer, trapped by his own cleverness in a wall of ice, and the Kielmark, Prince of Pirates, possible the most unlikely, bad-tempered ruthless cut-throat that you will ever find yourself cheering for. Possibly the only problem I have, in fact, with this whole trilogy is that the evil ruthless pirates are possibly the nicest well-behaved bunch of cold-hearted killers that your are ever likely to meet in a work of fantasy. Still, I highly recommend this for anyone who has enjoyed the Wizard of Earthsea books by Ursula le Guin.
