Fact & fiction intertwined - action packed & emotive, 2 Nov 2001
By A Customer
This book, in Demille's inimitable style, is gripping to say the least. It begins in France with the plans of destruction being laid well in advance of them being put into operation. The story then travels east to Israel, with delegates preparing to visit New York for a UN Peace Conference to try to bridge the huge divide between the Israelis and Palestinians. However there are some who will do everything in their power to prevent this conference taking place. Two Concordes are hijacked with the authorities powerless to intervene and steered towards a land that was once paradise on earth ruined and turned into a harsh landscape by man's desire for supremacy. The story then centres on the survival of the hijacked Peace Mission, trying to defend themselves against all odds - not only from their captors but also from their own internal struggles. The issues this book covers are many - a race of people displaced from their homeland and a hatred dating back to biblical times, those seeking retribution at any cost in the present day, a sub-plot of an old score to be settled, the demonstration of contempt turning into love when faced with immortality, and ardent pacifists having to become competent soldiers when self-preservation is all that matters. The story is compelling, not only because its events could happen in reality, but also because it deals with the age-old problem of disharmony in the Middle East, which sadly still continues.

Why?, 12 Mar 2004
I was intrigued by the synopsis on the cover of the book, so I bought it as I had enjoyed another of the authors books. The story was so bad that it I had trouble finishing the book. I have seen stronger characters in a newspaper story and the plausibility of the storyline inlcuding the actions of the "lead" characters could only have been less believable had James T Kirk beamed down in the middle to rescue the day! If you are going on holiday and just want something that won't test the Grey matter then buy it if nothing else is around.

SOMETHINGS NEVER CHANGE..., 14 Aug 2009
Two jets on a peace keeping mission take off in Israel. Their ultimate destination is the United Nations in New York City. Each jet is carrying a load of people from a variety of disciplines. All aboard share the same goal: to secure a peace in the Middle East. Unfortunately, there are those for whom those goals are anathema. So, unbeknownst to these travelers, a bomb has been planted aboard one of those jets.
When this becomes known to them and they are forced to crash land in the desert, all hell breaks loose. Suddenly, like the Jews of Masada, those aboard are forced to make a stand. Unfortunately, their stand will be against a group of crack Palestinian commandos, and the peacekeepers are outgunned and outmanned. They must attempt to stem the bloody tide, until the world realizes their predicament, and a rescue mission can be mounted. It will be a battle to the finish.
This is an engrossing, well-executed thriller, Written just over thirty years ago, one would think that it were written today, given the state of the world. Those who enjoy action-packed, suspenseful thrillers will surely enjoy this book.
