Product Description

Air Force One crashes into the sea, with the US President aboard. Is it an accident?

Yellowstone National Park erupts in the most devastating volcanic catastrophe ever known. But, when evidence points to foreign terrorists, vengeance is swift and merciless. Guided by ruthless commercial interests, a new American President imposes martial law on a starving, demoralized population and plunges the nation into an overseas race against Russia and China to seize control of the world’s most valuable remaining natural resources.

Darkness falls across the globe, society collapses, liberty vanishes, and soon forces wielding unfettered power are transforming the United States into the greatest threat to global survival. After months of isolation in the Sudanese desert, Lieutenant Adam Burch learns that his parents have gone missing. Risking execution, he deserts his post and journeys back home to a shocking new American landscape. There he uncovers the chilling truth behind an imperialistic agenda responsible for casually extinguishing the lives of millions – through starvation, enforced slavery and nuclear reprisal. Despite what Adam learns, it may already be too late, to rescue the world from its . . .

5.0 out of 5 stars It rox!, 2 Aug 2007
By Kent L (Kingswinford, England) - See all my reviews
I received Darkest Days this Tuesday. I was expecting to maybe read a few chapters each day. No way! Once I started this book, it was done in less than 48 hours. Warning! It is almost impossible to put down once picked up.

5.0 out of 5 stars An amazing ultra modern thriller, 3 Aug 2007
By SJ SMART "Smartie" (London) - See all my reviews
(TOP 500 REVIEWER)    (REAL NAME)
This book has everything! Its a fast paced modern thriller with the US Military bogged down in the Middle East, facing terrorism at home, a Govt. lurching further and further to the right with rampant capitalism unchecked. Although it set 20 years in our future it feels like now probably because of all the familiar issues mentioned above being present in the story. I just could not put this down and like other reviewers I finished it fairly fast.

I discovered Stanley Gallon when he "added me" on My Space. I thought it looked like a good read when I read the blurb and I am so pleased I did. If you liked the alternative story 6 days or Tom Clancy you will like this too.

5.0 out of 5 stars Thrilling, Not Just A Thriller, 2 Aug 2007
Darkest Days is an amazingly good read. This is, hands down, the best political thriller I have read in years. I am a big fan of Robert Ludlum, Clive Cussler and Tom Clancy. I would say this writer, Stanley Gallon (just amazing, he is a first-time writer!), is for sure in their league, or even greater, for his political message. It is not just a thriller; it is a dystopian fiction. The key difference from other dystopian fiction: this book not only depicts a dystopian society but also shows how a dystopian society is created. Highly recommended!
