3.0 out of 5 stars Good, with limitations, 29 May 2007

I agree with the previous reviewer; especially the cover picture of the paperback which is a dead giveaway, even though the ship pictured bears no relationship to the ship in the novel. Similarly, the gas tanker on the cover of the audio book! A good read nevertheless, with a firm grasp on the subject matter. Unlike other writers in this maritime genre, Brian Callison really knows his subject and has a real understanding of the reality of the world in which the story is set.

3.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but flawed, 19 Dec 2005
By Mr. Ian C. Kemp - See all my reviews

Good, but not one of Brian Callison's best. The premise is interesting, the characters are as sharply drawn as ever (many good thumbnail sketches of minor characters) but the development in the middle of the book is too long-drawn-out and drags a bit (unlike his classic 1970's books). Unfortunately the cover illustration of the Fontana paperback edition gives away the dramatic final twist! This would work well as a film without the extraneous matter in the middle - and one could even think of a way of taking the ending still further.
