This beautifully written book is a hit with the whole family. My eight-year-old son, a reluctant reader who had to be cajoled into reading independently, couldn't put it down. On the night he started it I found him more than an hour after bedtime, still reading in bed, chuckling away to himself - for the first time ever I had to suggest that he put the book down and go to sleep. The small format and short chapters are really appealing for novice readers like him, and the endearing whodunnit soon had him hooked. It's packed with witty gags and eccentric characters that made it a joy to read to my six-year-old. The illustrations go brilliantly with the text, too. We can't wait for the next instalment.
