Perfect for lovers (and music lovers) everywhere
on 3 February 2014
The Dreamboats and Petticoats juggernaut shows no sign of slowing down with the release of the latest volume - Teenagers In Love. Released just before Valentine's Day, this is a cannily-themed compilation which I'm sure Universal are hoping will be the ideal present for love-struck sweethearts.
Although it's interesting to note that some of the songs highlight the darker side of love, such as Bobby Vee's "The Night Has a Thousand Eyes" or Dion's "Runaround Sue", so pity the person that receives this as a Valentine's Day gift and is told to pay close attention to those songs.
Taken in isolation this is a first-rate compilation, although as many of the songs have featured on umpteen collections in the past, the question that the potential purchaser will have to ask is how many songs do they not own and are these songs strong enough to make this a must buy?
Various tracks from other Dreamboats compilations make another appearance here ("The Locomotion" and "Bobby's Girl" for example, both featured on the original release). Incidentally, given the Teenagers In Love theme I can't really understand why the Little Eva song is included, unless it's to appeal to train lovers.
But minor quibbles apart, there's plenty to enjoy here - big-hitters such as "When Will I Be Loved" by the Everlys, "Sealed With A Kiss" by Brian Hyland and "One Fine Day" by The Chiffons nestle alongside lesser-known tracks such as "Be My Girl" by Jim Dale, "Weekend" by Eddie Cochran and "Sailor" by Petula Clark.
In summary then, this is a very decent compilation that anyone should be happy to receive as a present - at any time.
