Good Build Up, Then Laboured Action
on 5 February 2014
First of all this is the first book I've read by this author, and the first of this genre. I chose it on an impulse as it looked interesting and I wanted to try something different.
This book was definitely different and to begin with introduced the genre, the 'characters' and backgrounds well, building up mystery and intrigue.
For the first half of the book I was enjoying the genre, learning about new 'creatures' and the read.
The book then deteriorates into an overblown, tedious battle that leaves too many loose ends flapping in the breeze like rotting skin on a desiccated skeleton!
The characters suddenly transform into cliched supernatural heroes and villains and the read became more of a chore than the interesting, enjoyable journey of the first half.
Finally the ending is flat and sudden (and predictable).
A real shame as the beginning offered so much. I'll not be looking at the authors other books and won't be exploring the genre further anytime soon.
