Like expensive Thunderbird
on 26 October 2015
I was really excited having read the reviews. Wine and chocolate both appeal separately, why not together?
Having tasted it, I am absolutely mystified at its popularity. A friend tried it too, and we had the same response.
The smell: strong smell of cheap chocolate - cooking chocolate, maybe. There's also a smell of fortified wine, of the Buckfast/ Thunderbird variety
The taste: same as it smells. This isn't a deep, sugary taste but a lightweight, saccharine one. Almost like I'd bought the diet version by mistake! We drank it holding our noses.
This isn't wine snobbery. I will happily drink cheap wine. But for this money, you could get yourself a decent madeira instead. I recommend you do.
