If you've never seen it SOA (or SAMCRO--Sons of Anarchy, Motorcycle Club, Redwood Originals) is a series about a hells angels type biker gang in California. It is slightly similar to the Sopranos in style (ultra violent action mixed with dark humour, great characters and real drama). This seems a little darker and at times a bit more OTT but it is still a class show.

There is a great depth, as the lead character, the young Vice President Jax (who is not quite ready to take control) vies for power with his step-father, Clay (Ron Pearlman--who is just starting to get too long in the tooth to run the club). Caught between them is Jax's mother, Gemma (the excellent Katey Sagal--Peggy Bundy for those who remember Married with Children!). It gets even more complicated, for Jax's real father was the president before Clay (before he died) and wanted to guide the club away from guns and crime (whereas Clay didn't). Jax finds and reads his father's memoirs and starts to take on his father's ideals, so there is real animosity building between the two men (and the scheming and manipulative Gemma).

Add to that a range of top notch supporting characters, dark politically incorrect humor, plots that include weapons smuggling with the IRA, disputes with rival biker gangs, local police and small-town politics, the increasing influence of drug trafficking in rural America, white supremists and on and on...

All in all this is a great and entertaining crime show and if you liked The Sopranos, you'll probably like this too (likewise if you like SOA and never saw The Sopranos, they're very similar in style). Just wish there were more programs like this around (I hate all these dreary modern PC dramas that have no real characters!!!).

This is a brilliant series, although it can be a little cheesy in places and you will definitely wonder through a few episodes in the first series how so many guns can be going off all at once without hardly anyone getting shot. With that being said Sons of Anarchy is a perfect combination of witty humor, drama, action and motorcycles. Character's develop over the series as a good TV drama should and the acting is top notch.

On the Blu Ray's themselves I have only had time to go through the first series and I cannot complain. With certain TV series (The Walking Dead for example) the Blu Ray quality is hardly non-existent. However with the Sons of Anarchy, the quality of the Blu Ray is definitely there and you can see a clear picture quality upgrade from the standard DVD's.

When the first series came out T.V. I missed a few of the first episodes so when I started watching I was lost, couldn't follow the plotline and gave up. Now I purchased the DVD box set - and finished Season 1 in 3 days. It has, it seems, everything in it from humour (dark at times) to inter rivalry whether between the bike gangs or family. Rivetting series and it's a case of finding it hard to stop yourself putting the next disc in.

The only complaint I have is the way the box set has been designed, with the plastic disc inserts cellotaped together down one side, so after a while they fall apart.

I never dreamt that an old "stick in the mud" such as me would get so totally hooked on a series about a motorcycle gang called Sons of Anarchy.
Put any predjudices you might have to one side and watch this incredible series.
It's the story of an american "Hells Angel" style motorcycle gang. Only they are also an organised crime gang, running guns, protection and prostitution rackets. SOA delves brilliantly into the personal lives of the key players and the internal politics of SOA
Then there is the determined efforts of law enforcement to bring them down and the dramas this brings.
Every episode of each series is superb, with great story lines, stunning acting and a lot of gut wrenching, brutal violence.
As long as you can stand the violence this is as good as it gets, unmissable, superb, gripping, a masterpiece of a show with a unique perspective.
I would give this 6 stars if i could. Watch it or i'll send the boys around.

A box set containing the first four seasons of this likeable American biker drama.
Season 1 introduces us to the main characters who spend most of the time jumping to th wrong conclusions. In season 2 a white supremicist group threatens our chaps.By season 3 our merry men are off to Ireland to sort out a little bother, and in season 4 one of the biker gang finally gets his/her come-uppance.
Despite my somewhat flippant comments this is a well paced and enjoyable drama. Each season has an on-going story, and each episode has a (usually)resolved sub plot.
By the way, watch out for Jaxs' increasingly silly walk.

Let me tell you that much: S.O.A. is no "Sopranos". SOA had all the ingredients necessary for a successful TV series and I try to enumerate here good actors like Ron Perlman, Katey Sagal, Kim Coates or Mark Boone Jr, a hunk (Charlie Hunnam) and a hottie (Maggie Siff), plenty of drama, love scenes, violence, humour, bullets and machine guns to fill a barn and of course, lots of Harleys but something went wrong in the process. In spite of all the effort made by leading characters, the story itself failed in convincing me, the viewer, that there's much to be seen after only two or maximum three seasons and the problem is only in the script which is flat like the tires of a car forgotten in a scrap yard. The characters refuse to evolve, the story is always repeating and the whole assembly is leaning only on extreme violence and motorcycles, and with such poor foundation a tragedy is imminent. All we have to do is to wait for that "building" to collapse at any given moment and that, my friends, is happening to my not so big surprise after only three seasons... and that's quite unusual to admit for a bike worshiper, builder and rider like myself. I've should've been more enthusiastic about S.O.A. but I'm not. Moses promised to part the Red Sea and to take us to The Promised Land but it failed and that land, my friends, remained far away and unreachable

What a fantastic series this is. Never got round to watching the show while it was on tv, due to working nights at the time. A friend brought it up in conversation a few weeks back and i was hooked by the story he was telling. I bought the 1 - 4 blu ray box set off amazon and was glued to the screen. I couldn't believe how good it was and the acting was excellent. Charlie Hunnam's accent was really good and you wouldn't have known he's the guy in the movie 'Green Street'. I was told that he'd been living in the states for a couple of years before getting the part in this series so maybe that helped with the change of accent. If i have any reason to moan at all then it's the irish accents in series 4. Really false i thought. All in all a great show and can't wait to watch the rest when they drop through my letter-box.
