By no means a terrible whisky, but I've had many better peaty blends for a cheaper price...

Having enjoyed many years as an Islay malt whisky aficionado it seemed like a good idea at the time to procure a bottle of Smokehead. Several friends had been raving about Smokehead's peaty smokeyness and it would have been churlish not to give it a go. So we gave it a good workout on a cold Icelandic evening after dinner with friends. It just seemed a bit anæmic and one-dimensional. Plenty of peat admittedly, but after the initial peat reek there didn't seem to be much of anything else left. A further tasting the following weekend confirmed my amateur personal view that this whisky is more than lacking in finesse and depth on the aftertaste. By no means a terrible whisky, but I've had many better peaty blends for a cheaper price.
