What to say...

Well ill start with the chatpad- great sturdy feel, nice to hold and is great for typing messages and using MSN on the xbox, has some great features like a mic hole in the bottom so you can have your headset on too but my favourite feature is that the keypad buttons light up when pressed so you can type in the dark wich is great for me as i can send messages to my friends, without taking half an hour typing 'hello' in the dark with a PC usb keyboard! So overall on the chatpad:

Look: 5/5
Feel: 5/5
Quality: 5/5

And the mic.. well, broke after a week... i'd recommend buying a more expensive mike like 'Turtle Beaches' if you want a reliable mic ( so far i've been through 6 headsets ALL MICROSOFT XBOX and could have bought a reliable pair that would still work )

Look: 5/5
Feel: 3/5
Quality: 0/5

Verdict- Good piece of kit, chatpad will last, headset will not.

I'd recommend this accessory pack 10/10!
NOTE: This `Chatpad inc Headset' is the latest released one (released:22 July 2010) some stores still sell the older released model.
I thought a FAQ would be useful for potential buyers, so here goes, hope it helps!

The Chatpad
----------------
Q) Is it easy to fit?
A) Yes; and it firmly remains in place.
--
Q) Why not just stick to using the controller for data entry?
A) The Chatpad makes any alphanumeric (etc) input easier, and therefore quicker. It makes Facebook, Twitter etc a breeze on Xbox. They'd otherwise be too much of a pain to use with the controller entry method.
--
Q) When can it be used?
A) In game chat, on any data entry needed on Xbox 360 (eg) profile info, passwords etc, on any Xbox Live apps ((eg) LOVEFiLM, YouTube, Netflix etc).
--
Q) Does the on screen keyboard/alphanumeric list still appear on screen?
A) Yes, simply use your Chatpad, the onscreen `keys' will be highlighted the same way they would be if using the controller.
--
Q) Can I still use the controller for data entry, in conjunction with the Chatpad?
A) Yes, you can use the Chatpad and use the controller, say pressing the controller's `X' button for delete (for example) instead of using the Chatpad's `<-bksp' key if you want.
--
Q) Does the Chatpad have any special keys?
A)(i) Yes, it has two modifier keys (amber, and green) to toggle between standard key characters and the green/amber characters printed on the standard keys. Note: where such special charters are not an option on a particular onscreen keyboard/list, then you will not be able to enter those characters - as such characters would not be accessible via the Chatpad anyway.
A)(ii)It also has a `Windows Live Messenger' button - press it to access instant messaging. The button will light up whenever you receive an instant message.
--
Q) Is the Chatpad easy to use in dim light?
A) Yes, all the keys are backlit. Pressing any key on the Chatpad will activate the backlight, which will stay on for a few seconds, then auto turn off if no key is pressed after those few seconds.
--
The Headset
----------------
Q) What features does it have?
A) A noise cancelling microphone with adjustable boom, attached to the headset, a volume/mute control switch integrated 2/3rds the way up the lead.
--
Q) Is it easy to fit?
A) Yes; insert the 2.5mm connector to controller's port at the base of the controller/Chatpad.
Place headset on your head, not around the back of it, adjust for size as necessary.
--
Q) Can I use the headset on either ear, and still swing the microphone down OK?
A) Yes

NOTE: Be sure to read the instructions for each to ensure you get optimal functionality from each!

Does exactly what it says.

Plugs easily into the bottom of he controller and your typing speed inevitably skyrockets. The speed I can write messages actually has me using Facebook and Twitter more on my console aswell as not being stressed having to write a message to a friend during a game.

The weight of the pad also gives a nice overall balance to the controller which can be a little light without.

The headset included is your standard new model of headset, not a fan of the really poor adjustability of the microphone. Unfortunately quality on sound is poor as ever, with services like Ventrilo around these days there is no excuse to have weak VOIP over the xbox.

All in all great price and a essential purchase for any Xbox owner.

I purchased this for a multitude of reasons, mostly for the keypad. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but it is very solid, just like the xbox360 controllers. When it's plugged into the controller, it's still easy to hold, doesn't interfere with playing games and doesn't wiggle around like cheaper off-brand accessories. It feels rock solid and like part of the original controller.

It's actually VERY convenient any time you have to type things in on the screen using the little on-screen keyboard which takes forever. This is less of a factor when playing actual video games, but with the improvements already made to Xbox live and with more surely on the way, this was an easy decision for me. The online services available incorporate so many additional services, I'd rather type in a search term when looking for a video, movie, music, etc. than use the cumbersome on-screen keyboard. For the little keyboard alone, this kit was worth buying.

As for the headphones, I can't really say they are anything special, nor are they terrible. Build quality is good, and the thing will last you forever. The cord tends to get in the way so I actually use a wireless set at home. Again, the headphones being included is just a bonus, even if they weren't included this was a good purchase.

My son is really pleased with the chatpad and headset. We had to replace the original headset and opted to purchase this pack with the chatpad. The chatpad is a welcome addition; it is so much easier to enter text, it connects and fits into the controller really well, easy to use and does not get in the way of the gaming controls. The headset appears to be much the same as the headset originally supplied with the xbox - which seems fine.

Standard xbox headset...always good to have a spare as these are a bit flimsy.

The keypad is well made but a little difficult to fit in the controller. Once it's in place you can plug your headset into it (if you want to chat) and you're ready to roll. The keys are raised and have a solid feel. The F and J keys have raised dot and the enter key has a raised line to help you centre your...thumbs...and the keyboard lights up when in use. It takes power from the controller which may cause battery drain for some, but I've found no great difference and use it mainly for searches. It adds a little weight to the controller which does not effect gameplay and makes typing easier. It is comfortable to use but a child with smaller hands may prefer to play with controller only.

fits in really well with xbox controller - the keypad doesn't interfere with gaming. good for typing in messages/passwords etc instead of on screen keyboard. headset fine - just plugs into controller/keypad.

The device does what it says on the box. Had no technical issues with it. The typing is responsive and it makes life a lot more easier when I am logging into xbox live or typing in some information during a game.

My only problems are that the keys are extremely small and close together which can be difficult for someone with big fingers like me. Another issue is that the keypad adds weight to your controller so if you want to play games with it then it can get a bit uncomfortable and tiresome. Therefore, I have taken to removing and re-attaching the keypad for whenever I need to type something, though this can become a bit annoying and fiddly.

As the quality of the headsets is quite low, I was looking for another replacement. I was thinking of getting just the headset but I saw this for only a couple of extra pounds. For the extra price I paid I cannot complain at all. The quality of the chatpad is pretty good and actually looks very good attached to the controller. I used to chat to friends while playing on my Xbox, so it came in handy for those occasions but if you don't there isn't much point. It doesn't make a huge difference, but if you use the chat or write lots of messages it might be worth the extra cash if you can find one for a few more pounds.
