If you have children up to 8/9 yrs old and limited garden space, this is absolutely ideal!

Good, sturdy powder coated metal frame which easily folds flat for storage when not in use. Easy to assemble, in fact the only difficult part was unravelling the net when taking it out of the package!

The net is fixed to the frame by attached velcro tabs. Don't know if this is enough so i added a few plastic cable ties and it is now much more secure.

The size is perfect for my 6 yr old in a 30' garden and at £20 (which is what I paid) is unbeatable value for this kind of quality. I have seen similar size goals (that don't even fold) for double and even treble this price! Really can't praise it highly enough!

Having previously been happy with purchase of the smaller version, I was happy to purchase the larger goal now that my children are older. However, neither my sons nor myself are very impressed with the quality of the net. The net saggs and where it is not sagging there are holes in the net where the football has gone straight through. As my sons are 4 and 9 years old, their kicks do not have the power of older children/adults. If the net had been of better quality, then the footballs would not have made a hole??!!

Mitre Easy Fold Goal was delivered with no instructions, but it didn't take long to work out how to construct it.

Size is fine for 6 - 11 year olds in a small-medium garden.

However the framework is weaker than other makes we've used, and one of the posts started to shear within a week, and got worse, so it is being replaced.

Disappointing for the price.

I'm reviewing the larger (6x8) net. A slightly disappointing build quality lets down what would otherwise be a nice net for playing in the garden.

It arrives well packaged, in a good box with each piece individually wrapped, with each piece clearly numbered and with easy-to-follow instructions. It can be assembled by one adult, even when being hassled by kids impatient to play with the goal.

However it's as you assemble it that you realise it's not really a premium bit of kit. The pins don't perfectly fit the holes, meaning it's quite a rattley, wobbly structure even when built properly. The fact you have to use velcro straps to keep the net on, rather than it having any kind of proper system of hooks, feels exceptionally cheap and will break far too easily.

You fix the net into the ground using four very ordinary tent pegs, which loop round the poles rather than hooking onto them in any way, which again feels like a bit of lazy design. It's important to note that there is a BIG safety warning on the instructions saying that the bottom of the goal has to be pegged firmly into the ground, otherwise "Unsecured Goal Can Fall Over Causing Serious Injury Or Death". So if you were thinking of using this goal on a patio, or on tarmac, then be VERY warned that that's in breach of the safety instructions and you will have to think about some other secure way of making sure it isn't going to fall over. While it's not exceptionally heavy, it's heavy enough that if it fell on somebody's head, serious injury could happen. It's also not particularly weighted onto the base, which seems like a mistake too.

With the 6x8 size one, the base is actually smaller than the goal itself. You could actually twist it round and get a smaller goal, which you could then turn around again once the kids are ready for a bigger goal- but because of the way the corner pieces are designed, it's not quite as secure that way round, so again, be very very aware of the safety risks if you're thinking of doing that.

I expected better build quality from the Mitre brand, I really did. A Paul Scholes-style volley into this goal would probably break the net, the Velcro ties and the frame in one go. It's lucky I'm not Paul Scholes...

Easy to assemble (although needed to 2 people to make it easy) and sturdy. Just the right size for my two boys aged 5 and 3

I was quite impressed by the Mitre Easy Fold goal frame, which measures 8ft (2.4m) wide and 6ft (1.8m) tall. The dismantled frame and net comes in an easy carry box, which allows for transportation when the goal frame and net is dismantled. This is ideal for taking over to fields or play areas where garden space is limited or if the garden has a greenhouse or sun lounge/conservatory and there is a danger of glass breaking.
The frame is made of sturdy steel covered in a protective white paint and is easily assembled by locking each section into place with the use of easy to press button pins. The netting is made from a fairly strong fibre and easily secured to the frame. Lockable hinges at the base of the frame in the corners allow the upright section to sit safely on the base section through the use of a locking pin and, in turn, as these lockable hinges have a folding mechanism built into them, the upright frame and attached net can be folded back onto the base frame and locked into place with the locking pin allowing the folded frame to be stored against a wall or in the garage. It should be noted that when the goal frame is folded and locked into a storage position, the frame will still measure 8ft x 6ft and so suitable storage space is required. Otherwise, the net can be easily removed from the frame and the frame dismantled and put safely back into the carrier box for transportation.
The goal frame offers hours of fun for the children and, if treated with respect and not hammered by the football by over eager kids, serves as an excellent tool for eye and feet coordination as well as superb training for those wannabe Beckham youngsters who could go on to become great sportsmen and women of the future. For health and safety reasons, I strongly recommend an adult is present at all times.
One personal comment though. If the goal post is used in the back garden, try to dissuade the children from kicking the ball into the top corners of the net as the ball could end up going over the fence into the neighbour’s garden and it has become embarrassing to keep asking: “Umm… hi! Er… sorry! Could I have the ball back, please?” Whoops!

If you have kids that love football and a garden then this is ideal for you.

If you have a garden which is your pride and joy with flowers just waiting to be snapped in half then this is your worst enemy!

It is brilliant.

We bought one for our soccer mad son years ago and both he and me (his Dad) spent hours in the garden playing football.

This has a few benefits.
1. It gets the kids active.
2. It can get you active.
3. It’s a good socialising game and
4. Allows you to bond with your kids.

This is an above average garden goal and net.
It’s made from metal and coated with a 'rweather proofing coating'.
DO NOT SUPPOSE FOR ONE MINUTE that this means it’s rust proof.
We had one and left it out in the elements and rain as you do and it rusted.
The goal comes in for some hammer and gets scratched, dinked, bent and that thin coating is soon exposed to water and oxygen- result RUST.

Our original goal had a drawback tit was cumbersome, took up a lot of room and was awkward to put away.
(Never for one minute think of dismantling it once you have got it erected it is simply not worth the time and effort)

BUT and this is a big BUT this goal has a neat trick up its sleeve.

The end unlocks and allows you to fold it up making storage a dream compared to the old inflexible ones.

The result is that you can easily store it and have no excuses to leave it out in the rain to rust.

The result is it will last 4 times longer than if you leave it out to the elements and next doors cat.

It stands up to some hammer- not quite if you bend it like Beckham (God Bless him) but should stand up to the kids and grownups with ease.

Recommended. Fabulous for 4 to 8s IMHO.

This is a great goal for younger children or a smaller garden. We had a goal in our garden which was meant to be weather resistant, but, over the winter, it has rusted and become unsafe. I like the fact that you can fold this up and stash it in the shed for the winter (even thought this has a weather resistant coating, it is probably best packed away, as it can be).

On the plus side, this is easy to assemble, but it is not as sturdy as previous goals I have purchased. The net is held by Velcro tabs, which is fine for younger children who do not kick the ball so hard, but my eleven year old can kick the net so it hangs down. The pegs do hold the goal down but, again, with older children it could possibly be knocked over unless secured more firmly. The best benefit of this goal is that it can be packed away so easily, which is a real bonus.

Overall, I would recommend this for young children – perhaps eight and under. My nephew, who is five, played happily with this. His shots were not strong enough to damage a structure which, for older children, is simply too flimsy. For younger children though, this is a great goal, which can be packed away easily and this is ideal, of course, if you do not have the room to leave it in the garden – as well as ensuring it does not get damaged in wet weather.

I have a similar experience to other reviewers really.

The item is packed well and looks sturdy enough, but the frame doesn't seem to quite fit together as it should. Not normally a problem with some items but when you see the "Unsecured Goal Can Fall Over Causing Serious Injury Or Death" you start to worry a little. Great that they warn you, but not so great when you don't feel that confident about the goal due to the fact the parts don't fit together smoothly. It does seem as if Mitre have cut corners to keep the costs down, which is a shame. I'm sure parents would happily pay a fiver or tenner extra knowing that the product is of a better quality.

On the plus side the net does fold down so won't be open to the winter weather as our previous goal did.

There are some plus points to this Mitre goal, ease of assembly, foldable, etc but also some negative ones, the quality of the fittings doesn't seem great and the goal is wobbly after construction; a real concern considering the almost hysterical "death" notice.
