We recently moved to an area of the country that has extremely hard water. I've been using the Brita water filter system here for a year now, and it absolutely does work. There is no trace of hard water deposits in our heavily used kettle, and the water tastes great. If you read and follow the instructions it does not leave little black bits in the water. I use the filter for a good six weeks (rather than the four weeks it calls for) before replacing it, and have still not seen any lime scale. I do a lot of comparison shopping, and Amazon is the cheapest place I have seen to buy them, as well. It is worth it.

After years of putting up with foul tasting water, kettles that didn't last for more than a year and tea / coffee with a scummy residue on top I decided to purchase a water filter. We have been using it now for a couple of months and I have noticed a huge difference in the taste of the water, the look of my tea and coffee and also my kettle doesn't seem to be furring up like it used to.

The Brita jug comes with one cartridge and a sensor which tells you when it is time to change it. It suggests four weeks use but the cartridges do say they last for 100 uses which is roughly a jug refill three times a day for the whole month. If you don't use your water jug that much then the cartridge will last a bit longer even if the sensor tells you to change it.

If you have a Brita Maxtra water filter jug then you do need to purchase these Maxtra water filter cartridges, you can't get away with trying to purchase less expensive ones.

These cartridges come in boxes of four or ten with it being more economical to purchase ten. However, the larger box takes up more storage and you need to outlay more money at the start. I tend to go for the boxes of four as I find it hard to purchase items that are going to last ten months and I just plan to buy more when I need them.

Each of the cartridges are individually packaged in the box so they stay fresh until opened which means that it isn't a problem if you do decide to buy the larger pack.

The cartridges easily click into place inside the inner section of the water filter - just remember not to pull off the ring pull part otherwise they will be difficult to remove - I speak from experience here!

I bought the 6-pack from Amazon this week for £16, which I believe is a great price for this pack. Price is fluctuating often up and down, pick it up on the right price. 4=pack is also going between £10-14 here, try to catch the £10 mark. All in all, these filters are great, you can see it clearly in the colour of the tea, if not in the taste of water :)

I have an aversion to buying water filters but our new fridge last year came with a water system which requires one of these and after tasting the water from it I had to accept it was a much fresher taste. I tried to get by without replacing the original filter but the taste of the water deteriorated when the filter had given its best, although that took a lot longer than the manufacturer says.

I found the price of a year's supply acceptable from this supplier and I'm delighted my drinking water now tastes a lot better again.

The package arrived on time and well wrapped. Ultimately I'm more than happy with my purchase and this seller's abilities.

I've used these for years and am pretty sure that you can get a pack of 4 cheaper in most supermarkets, during offers, particularly when you take postage into account.

I love the filters, but I wish, as with other filter types, that somebody had come up with an alternative and cheaper version which could be used in place of the brand name "maxtra," because, for those of us on a low income these are very expensive and it's possible to get cheaper versions of the standard type filters.

Also, I'm not sure about the 4 week time limit.

As a single person, I'm pretty sure I must use substantially less water than a "typical" family of 4, so I'm wondering why there is no suggestion of being able to extend use for another 2 weeks, which I have to admit to doing when times are hard!

These are very expensive to buy but in all fairness they last well over a month.

We have a Brita kettle and a Brita filter jug both of which utilise these cartridges.

Good value for your money if bought from Amazon.

If you've used the previous version of the BRITA filter, then you'll be surprised at how fast these flow. Seem to filter just as well and make tap water taste so much better, so I guess they work the same.

Only thing I would take with a pinch of salt is their recommended length of use, and if you're like me and have a filter jug model with a timer on it. Seems to work far longer than they recommend but then again, I only use it for myself, and I'm out at work most of the day. Seems to be alright for ages and ages so I would just judge when your water doesn't quite taste that good anymore.

Nice clear water comes out of these filters. It does taste slightly better than London water, so I feel they must be doing something! Like most buyers I have a vague lingering suspicion that these make little difference, but who knows. I wish these were cheaper, but avoided buying the cheaper per unit years supply offer after reading a purchaser feedback that Amazon doesn't really have them in stock! Amazon, raise your game - get the 12 for the price of 9 in stock and ready to ship, and you'll sell some serious units.

Works as intended! Do remember to treat the cartridge before use to remove any loose filter beads.
Though the beads are claimed to be edible, it looks unsightly in a glass of water! Treating the cartridge will only take a few minutes which will allow it to serve it's purpose for a month or more!

Water filtered through these cartridges will inherit a slight hint of sweetness initially, which will fade in distinction over the days. I would like to assume it to be the taste of properly filtered water!

Overall, I highly recommend this product.
