Leaving ~ Pet Shop Boys
Leaving ~ Pet Shop Boys

Pet Shop Boys have demonstrated many times in the past that they have a unique talent for creating truly beautiful electronic pop songs - creations such as "You Only Tell Me You Love Me When You're Drunk", "Miracles" and "Home & Dry" have all had this quality - but "Leaving", a heart-warmingly optimistic, uplifting song about loss and death, is their finest such song to date. For me personally it has enormous resonance and it has quickly become one of my favourite PSB songs. On the "Leaving" EP, I also highly recommend "Hell" and "In His Imagination", which continue the PSB tradition of high quality B-sides.

"White Light", with its insistent, hypnotic flavour and euphoric, life-affirming sentiment, sees George Michael well and truly back on the dancefloor where he belongs. The electronic sound gives it a very "current" feel. It bodes well for further new material and it's great to see GM back in touch with his ability to create a killer tune!

The latin flavour of "Wipe Off My Sweat" is rather fun, whereas the final track, the mid-paced "China Shoes", is a gem of a song and very much a 'grower'. True, this album is a little eclectic, as other reviewers have said, but then that's very much a tradition with Blondie albums and I think it's a positive. "Panic Of Girls" works well as a collection of songs and it more than demonstrates that now in their fifth decade, Blondie are still… Read more
