I'm not surprised this book has been longlisted for the 2011 Booker Prize. It's fantastic, relevant and current. Told from the point of view of Harrison, a Ghanan boy just moved to a generic London council estate (loosely based on Marsh Farm in Luton I believe from the references!) it's a child's eye look at gang culture and the effects of knife crime. I won't ruin the ending but I have to say it was unexpected. The tone of the book was perfect considering the voice and it just ran along at the speed of a young boy's mind.

I'd wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone but it could be a classroom contender very soon!

As my title suggests, this book moved me from laughter to tears and back again and again. It was intense in places but easily readable and I couldn't put it down. I would recommend it to anyone who thinks it is too hard to turn their life around on their own. All you need is a little courage and a voice.

Cup, you're an inspiration!
