Shavit's book has that rare quality of being passionate about his country yet able to empathise with a range of perspectives that differ from those of the author.It is a far cry from the polemics that are often written about this subject in both its style and content.Highly recommended

For the increasing number of aficionados of Nordid Noir, this provides a good overview and includes some interesting interviews with authors.It also provides some pointers to some lesser known authors and films.
