First of all, I admit it was the more melodic early Alter Bridge material that got me into the band- Open Your Eyes, In Loving Memory, Down To My Last, Rise Again, Watch Over You, etc. That's why, for me, this album is a big disappointment. Sure, the guys can play and Myles is a brilliant singer, but the band have definitely become more metal as time has gone on. If that's your bag, then fine but for me, the fact that the music is 'brutal' and 'crushing' doesn't necessarily make it good. In fact, there is stuff on here (Addicted to Pain, Cry Me a River) that is just metal-by-numbers that I might have liked if I was still 14. So, if you into metal, you'll probably love this, but for those… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Huge Potential, 14 May 2013
I picked up this band's 1st album only a couple of months back and thought it had some good tracks, but some others lacked, for want of a better word, maturity. There's no such problem with this 2nd album which sees the band's songwriting moving up a notch. I think this is actually less bluesy than the 1st album but is a much better album overall. As much as the band would like me to say they sound like Zep or Free, this album is more of a blues rock sound akin to pre-1982 Whitesnake or even Thunder. The singer has a great voice, and his phrasing reminds me a little of John Waite. There isn't one duff song on the album and, as these guys are obviously not on a record label, I hope good… Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Huge Step Forward, 23 Dec 2012
I previously bought Simon's Rich Man Falling album a couple of years back and was reasonably underwhelmed. It was clear he could play and sing, but I didn't think the songs were particularly memorable and the album has not had many repeat plays. Recently though, a couple of tracks from this album have been released via The Blues magazine and I found both new tracks to have much more depth to them. I've toyed with buying this for a couple of months now and am glad I finally did. Song-wise, production-wise and confidence-wise, this is streets aheas of Rich Man Falling. This positively oozes soul in places and there is bags of feeling in the music. Definately blues-rock as opposed to blues but… Read more
