[Anyone ever tried to remove organs without removing cells?]

[A business number, with colleagues in the building and apparently no answerphone even, to kick in after the 10th ring if no-one bothers to answer the phone. Is any business so busy they can afford to miss potential business in this way? Anyone ever tried looking at a ringing phone for several minutes before answering? Moments or seconds,maybe; minutes,no.]

To any of the 1* reviewers who said they didn't enjoy it because it was bleak...... I wonder what you were expecting from an end-of-the-world tale.

Yes it is bleak, why wouldn't it be? If you don't want bleak then buy from the comedy section.

I particularly liked the fact that this book is set years after whatever event it was that lead to the world being a gray, dead, ash filled nightmare. Usually these tales are set straight after the event. This one was a good story, well told, with believable characters that made me ache with sorrow for their plight. I believed it, could see their world and it had me hanging on every word till the last page, and thinking about it… Read more

I was born and brought up in Guernsey, living there for 20 years. This book is not set in any Guernsey that I know. Maybe it's as good a job as an American could do, bearing in mind a very limited knowledge of the place. It would be like me trying to write a novel set in post war New York.

My parents were children in the occupation so I have heard many a story and some of those in the book ring true, but the characters and plot do not.

I nearly gave up half way through but persevered. The letters format didn't irritate me particularly but I found for the first half of the book each character sounded much the same, plus it was so implausible and badly done it was… Read more
