Ancient Times a History of the Early World: An Int&hellip by James Henry Breasted
I'd recommend this book as one of the most interesting I've ever read on the history of mankind. Perfect for teenagers but also perfect for adults. He doesn't talk down to you, doesn't use difficult words where simple ones will do, and keeps you wanting to turn the pages and learn more. He explains how man went from the stone age to the iron age, how the written word evolved and from where, the links between man's gods of 5000 BC to those of today, and more, and more, and more.

Unfortunately my Kindle version doesn't have the maps and pictures he frequently refers to, so I'd recommend an atlas to hand when reading it or you could miss out on quite a bit.

So the author thinks that atheism is akin to believing that the world is flat and that the majority of scientists believe in God. I'll stick with the writings of one of the top scientists of his generation, Professor Sir Hermann Bondi and disagree with this author.

This book is a perfect example of the curate's egg - it's good in parts.

It looks at various types of government in various parts of the world and across various eras, describing in some detail the different forms of democracy, autocracy, communism, fascism, etc., etc. In many instances the description and criticism is good, well-balanced and well argued. In others, it just fails completely.
