I stumbled across this quite by accident when it aired recently on Film 4. As others have commented the distributors clearly thought they had to market the film in a certain way to find 'an audience' and in my opinion grossly mis-sold it. Its a story of damaged souls finding redemption and healing, all set in the deep south with an awesome Blues soundtrack. Samuel L Jackson, gives a superb performance, and shows he can sing a bit as well, and Cristina Ricci gives a performance unlike any other I have seen from her. I loved this movie, its look its story and its music, hence buying the DVD release after watching it on the TV. The CD of the soundtrack isn't bad either, if you like the whole… Read more

Was lured by the special offer price on Amazon into purchasing this title whichI think was a straight to disc release in the UK (certainly the cinema release passed me by otherwise) Its unusual in that it has a UK cast although its production values are of a Hollywood movie and contains appearances by a number of well known names for whom this must have been a payday movie.
As I feared the plot rolled out along fairly predictable lines, with plenty of derivative subplots to the inevitable obvious conclusion, which became more predictable as the film rolled on.
If you are after a night of easy viewing without having to think too hard and don't mind a bit of fairly graphic film… Read more
Highlander Highlander - Special Edition [1986] [B&hellip Blu-ray ~ Christopher Lambert

Having enjoyed this film since it was originally released and had both VHS and DVD releases in the past, I decided to add the Blu ray version to my collection. Sadly on sitting down for an evening of Highlander action, I became more disillusioned as the film played on, the conversion to hi def as not done this film any favours, gone is the gritty feel of the original to be replaced with a almost too clean and pinsharp look, which exposes the films flaws (yes i'm not blind to its shortcomings) in all their sad glory. In my view the film has been done no favours by having a Blu-Ray version and I'll stick to watching my DVD release in future, not one I would recommend on this format.
