The Mammoth Book of Mindblowing SF (Mammoth Books) by Mike Ashley

This collection is a mix of old stuff with a few specially commissioned stories. This is not the only Mike Ashley "Mammoth" collection that fails to be anything approaching representative of the diversity within the genre but it is one of most blatant examples of white western man bias that I can think of in a SF anthology. All the stories are by white men from a limited range of experiences. Where are the women? Where are writers from different backgrounds? They are not there. This may not be a deliberate bias but it is a clear bias none the less which weakens the anthology and means it totally fails to live up to its name.

At time of writing this game is a mere £13.99 which is an absolute steal. For this price you get:-

Winter Carcassonne - with the same rules as normal carcasonne but with some extra tiles that add some interesting twists to the game

Gingerbread Man Mini expansion.

For anyone who has not played Carcassonne I would state flat out that this is a better game than the standard game. For just a little over 6£ you get 9 great albums from Mingus who is one of the most important, interesting and enjoyable talents in Jazz at the dizzying height of his powers as a bassist, as a band leader and as a composer.

You do not get art work, album break downs etc. I was not able to identify which album the first few tracks come from but for the rest

Tracks 7-10 The Clown - This is one of my very favorite Mingus albums - it features Haitian Fight Song which i just love and the rest of the album is just incredible. The fourth track features a vocal narration that was I think part improvised - it makes for a very enjoyable listen although I sometimes dont want to… Read more
