5.0 out of 5 stars Free as a Bird..., 5 Oct 2001
Released after a long gap of nothingness after the release of his 3rd single from his 2nd album way back in 1989, Rick releases his first album post-PWL. Is it any good? This is an album and not a pool where you pick off singles to be released like his first 2 albums. All the songs are good and solid and there are no weak ones. He goes towards blue-eyed soul, pop, rock, piano jazz and the like. There are a couple of solid musicians on this album and the big band feel is maintaned with brass, strings and ivory. Mark King, Rob Fisher, Micheal McDonald comes on to help him out with the writing duties while Gary "Go West" Stevenson comes on board to fill the golden boots of SAW. It's… Read more
Whenever You Need Somebody ~ Rick Astley

Young Englishman Rick turned into an overnight superstar with this album which contains the universal hits Never Gonna Give You Up, Together Forever, Whenever You Need Somebody and When I Fall In Love. It comes as no surprise that each of the 4 singles above has reached the #1 spot somewhere around the world. With slick production from Stock/Aitken/Waterman and Phil Harding/Ian Curnow, the PWL team turned the tables on everyone and came up with a multi-platinum album. The best thing about Rick is of course his voice. The roar of a lion coming from the depths of a human. The songs written and produced by SAW are superb and brilliant and it took Rick's vocal to make them superior. White kid… Read more

Well, the last time we heard dear Rick singing was way back in 1993 with Hopelessly and The Ones You Love. Now, he's back with the first single from his 5th album Keep It Turned On. With Todd Terry helping out with the dance mixes, it'll be a hit on the dance floors in Germany. Sleeping is a good track, it'll remind of you Missing by Everything But The Girl but make no mistake this song is original and great. Rick's vocal as never been better. I do recommend you people to go out and get it, it's value for money and the quality is always there.
