This is not only a thoroughly pleasant read, it is immensely clever! A true joy to read and be heard, with wonderful illustrations, I commend this to complement your quality night moments before sleep comes to your treasure one's.
As a counsellor in private practice, I find many messages are repeated in publications. That often is, however, a good thing because repetition can embed knowledge that is most useful. Sloan has produced a wonderful resume of all that is good within not only the collaborative therapeutic setting, but in our own wellbeing and growth. The author explores many of the critical component aspects that make up 'the self' and our psyche. Expectations, faith, judgement and appropriate positive thinking are among a myriad of helpful considerations affecting most of us at some time or another. For such a low investment, this book belies it's status! It is worth so much more!
For those who are diagnosed, or those with a more recent professional interest in Autism in any form, this is an essential read! I wanted to learn from someone living the experience, rather than an academics perspective; although the author is himself, an academic! In growing my own exposure to those with various forms cross the spectrum, and their loved ones, this publication has been invaluable. Something I will return to, as and when I want to reinforce such critical elements of understanding. Highly recommended.
