A Pattern of Islands by Sir Arthur Francis Grimble
A Pattern of Islands by Sir Arthur Francis Grimble
My English teacher, Dave Wilson, used this book over many years (decades) as a classroom reader. So when i saw it i thought, i will read that again, 40 years on. It is every bit as enchanting as i remember it and a vivid description of the adventurous lives that were available to the sons of Empire.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book but....., 16 April 2014
An interesting book, perhaps veering off maps and into road-building policy more than the title suggests but still good for all that.

What was off-colour was when it went into a political rant about the Thatcher government. It just comes out of nowhere and is really so out-of-context with the expected book content that it really jars as you read. Maybe those sections should have gone into a feature article in the Grauniad instead of this book.
