Ghost of a Chance by Rhiannon Lassiter
Ghost of a Chance by Rhiannon Lassiter
4.0 out of 5 stars Great YA book, 13 April 2011
A fantastic book with some great characters and an engaging storyline. The writing is vibrant with the majority of the characters being very realistic. Eva is a tragic heroine, full of resilience but at heart she's still a teen who has grown up with her elderly grandfather in a eerie house full of ghosts.
As well as the main themes of ghosts and mystery there is an underlying sense of misconceptions, neglect, power and control. It's hard to elaborate on the previous sentence without giving away the plot! Recommended.
The Lamp of the Wicked (Merrily Watkins Mysteries) by Phil Rickman

5.0 out of 5 stars An intriguing read, 4 May 2005
"The Lamp of the Wicked" is another outstanding book in the Merrily Watkins series. Fot those who are new to the series, Merrily Watkins is the parish priest of Ledwardine and also the Deliverance Consultant for Hereford.
Rickman gives all the characters very clear voices, and whilst he is dealing with the possibility of serial killings he manages to keep control of the plot. This book is probably the darkest of the series so far - it's complex story and the usual twists are well executed.
