The Newsroom - Season 1 [DVD] [2013] DVD ~ Jeff Daniels
5.0 out of 5 stars Sorkin in great form, 14 Feb 2014
I have been a big Aaron Sorkin fan since his work in the early West Wing series. The Newsroom is not quite as good (I would unashamedly give WW 7 stars!) but is appreciably better than most other offerings on TV. Similar to some other reviewers I felt a little bit uneasy with the triumphalism and cliches abounding in the Osama Bin Laden episode. However, to be fair to Aaron Sorkin I presume it would have been almost impossible to present it any other way for US consumption.
I found I enjoyed The Newsroom much better on the second viewing as the dialogue can be a bit quick fire and I missed some terrific one liners first time out.
Looking forward to Season 2.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bowfinger, 13 July 2011
This DVD is an absolute joke. All previous years season highlights featured actual Sky/BBC/ITV footage but this year appears predominantly to come from MUFC's own cameras. I dont know if other readers will relate to it but the quality reminded me of the Steve Martin film "Bowfinger" where he tries to shoot a movie using real actors with them being unaware of their involvement. The footage is so bad that it is good for a laugh but not so good if a fan wished to relive the historic 19th title.

4.0 out of 5 stars sublime, 2 Sep 2009
This was another CD I purchased on the strength of seeing The Webb Sisters at a recent Leonard Cohen concert - Sharon Robinson's "Everybody Knows" being the other one. During the course of the concert if Cohen name-checked "The sublime Webb Sisters" once he must have done it half a dozen times. And do you know what? He is spot-on. Seldom have I heard such close knit and haunting harmonies. Some of the songs may be a little light weight but the fact that they are all self-penned counts for something in my book. On initial listening I felt the sound was very similar to Fleetwood Mac in their Rumours era but this became less noticeable following repeated listenings. The Webb Sisters are… Read more
