This may not be a gripping read, but it is a unique window into historical world changing events, leading up to the Armistice of 1918 in one of the most war torn parts of Europe. The writer visits the Alsace region around Masevaux, apparently as part of a Catholic peace mission, and uses descriptive and poetic language to describe the contrast between the beautiful natural environment and the remnants of the war torn countryside. Her accounts of lavish meals and evening entertainment with Army officers and local dignitaries contrasts incredibly with the scenes on the battlefield nearby. This is an instant classic, I just love every track! Lots of variety in the music, legendary performers and you can just feel the atmosphere. Wish I'd been there!
