TREATS ~ Sleigh Bells
TREATS ~ Sleigh Bells
4.0 out of 5 stars Slay Bells, 26 May 2011
Back in the space year 2004, I inherited an ancient drum machine which I duly ran through my guitar effects pedals, turned everything to 11 and basked in the throbs of white-noise, pretending I was a hardcore version of Duran Duran. Sleigh Bells is essentially that, except with decent tunes.

'Treats' tells you almost everything you need to know about Sleigh Bells within 3 seconds of opener 'Tell 'Em' - guitars pitch bent until they sound like casio keyboards, over cheap beats. But it's not until vocalist Alexis Krauss appears 1 minute into the mix, that it all comes together. It's this paring of punk (guitarist Derek Millar used to play for Post-Hardcore group 'Poison The Well')… Read more
Obits ~ Obits
Obits ~ Obits
Obits are a 'supergroup', but to many listeners their previous bands (notably frontman Rick Froberg's Drive Like Jehu and latterly Hot Snakes) are likely to be little more than half-remembered names on a flyer from decades past. Still, it is difficult to take their output out of that context, as Obits seem to provide the dirty, cynical, driving garage rock that Rick's previously penned album cover art seemed to predict.

Second album 'Moody, Standard and Poor' takes the template set in their 2009 debut 'I Blame You' for another 12 tracks. Opener 'You Gotta Lose' bristles with an intensity that belies their years, and 'No Fly List' is 2 minutes 30 seconds of motorik, downstroke… Read more
Binatone E3300 DECT Phone - Black/Silver by Binatone

This phone will be fine for a few months, then the battery will start to go, and the sound quality with it (very quiet and muffled). A few months more, and the phone won't be able to maintain power to talk outside the dock (yes, you have to hold the entire unit up to your ears..."wireless" indeed!), and it will beep at you constantly (every 10 minutes) because of low power, even when docked.

Replacement batteries are in the region of 10, and they seem to be even worse than those packaged with the phone.

Buying a cheap cordless phone like this really is false economy. Avoid like the plague!
