5.0 out of 5 stars The best cast on TV, 15 April 2014
Every scene in this show is meticulously crafted. The casting is impeccable. Though good from the start, Boardwalk Empire really hit its stride in series 3 - and series 4 is the best yet. Breaking Bad, True Detective, and this are the 3 best shows of the 21st century thus far. Brilliant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bypass HDCP, 7 Mar 2014
I bought this with a video convertor that turns HDMI to component. Run HDMI from the HDCP-ed unit to the convertor. Use the component to s-video lead (supplied) to connect the convertor to the Elgato, and connect to your computer by USB (supplied). It provides excellent recordings at 720p.

2.0 out of 5 stars very disappointing, 14 Sep 2011
I am surprised by the positive reviews for this book as it is, without doubt, the weakest of Pelecanos' books to date. The Washington DC travelog sections are far too many and too detailed. Ditto the descriptions of what people are listening to/eating/wearing/reading/etc. I know these are familiar tropes in Pelecanos' work but on this occasion they feel like padding. Also, the quality of his writing has dipped dramatically. Some of the dialogue approaches Stieg Larsson levels of artifice (yes, it's that bad) and certain characters are flimsily sketched. I have greatly enjoyed his work in the past, but The Cut is a huge disappointment from Pelecanos. Bring back Derek Strange!
